TRIQUETRA participates in ESC2024
The ESC2024 Conference in Corfu served as the platform for a significant presentation by Prof. Salvatore Martino from Sapienza Università di Roma. A key partner of the TRIQUETRA Project, Prof. Martino shared valuable findings on seismic hazard assessment at some of Greece’s most renowned archaeological sites.
Investigating Seismic Hazards at Greek Archaeological Sites
Prof. Martino’s presentation, titled “Geophysical Investigations to Quantify Seismic Hazards at the Archaeological Sites of Epidaurus, Aigina Kolona, and Kalapodi,” focused on the ongoing research conducted under the TRIQUETRA Project. This initiative aims to integrate advanced geophysical methods to evaluate and mitigate seismic risks at these culturally significant locations.
The study examines Greek pilot sites, including the Epidaurus Theatre, the historical site of Aigina Kolona, and the sanctuary of Kalapodi. Through detailed geophysical investigations, the team is working towards strategies to better understand and address seismic vulnerabilities affecting these heritage sites.
The research was presented during Session 07 & 15 of the ESC2024 program, which focused on methodological advancements and interdisciplinary applications within solid Earth sciences. These sessions emphasized recent progress in single-station seismometry, a key technique for precise seismic hazard evaluation.
